I want to say a special thank you to all who came out to support the cast, crew and cause behind “U-Street”. Your presence truly invigorates the performers and makes all their hard work over the past few months seem quite worth it. Part proceeds from this production will be used to support programming for kids from low-income families in the City of Alexandria. Please take some time out to let the cast know how much you appreciated their performance and I hope you will be encouraged to continue making an earnest effort to give back to the community. I also hope there was something in this production that inspired you or at least provoked a thought worth acting upon.
This production has been a labor of love as it gave me the opportunity to “edutain” while creating art with a purpose. That I could find exceptionally talented artists who support my dream is both humbling and empowering at the same time. We can do nothing in this life by ourselves so any success that comes out of this production is directly because of the hard work and dedication of many supportive voices and hands.
Our aim was to put on a Broadway style show on a shoe string budget. I think we accomplished that and then some. Giving a voice to the voiceless and encouraging thought provoking conversations was a deliberate focus of U-Street. In life there are not always happy endings, but knowledge breeds understanding, and one step forward is still progress. Continue to support the arts community and I hope you leave with a commitment to finding new ways to help those who are less fortunate and in the process making this country better for all.
